Know Thy Pig (Flæskestegssandwich) @ Meyers Deli

Did you know that there are more pigs than humans in Denmark? That’s right, you heard it right. No wonder Copenhagen is such a heaven for pork sandwiches. And if you’re also a snob when it comes to sandwich bun, you will absolutely enjoy the flæskestegs (roasted pork) sandwich served at Meyers Deli. You’ve got Øland (second largest Swedish island) wheat bun with slices of roasted free-range pork (the Danes are really big on free-range), pork cracklings (also known as pork rind), fresh apples and mustard dressing. The bun is lightly toasted and the roasted pork slices are juicy and flavourful. The cracklings step up the sandwich texture and the fresh apples really hit the spot of balancing the greasiness.

Meyers Deli also serve artisanal bread and top-notch pastries, and there is not a single chance of leaving the establishment without picking up one or two! They also have a beautiful pantry on display.

Meyers Deli is owned by Claus Meyers, who is also the co-founder of Noma. If you’re into gastronomy and food, Noma surely isn’t a foreign name. The restaurant was voted the best in the world in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014 and know for its ‘reinvention and interpretation’ of Nordic cuisines.

Now let me wrap it up for you:

  • Delicious pork sandwich – checked
  • Wide selection of quality and freshly baked goodies (and desserts) – checked
  • If one can’t go to Noma (long reservation wait list and price), one can at least go to Meyers Deli – CHECKED

Keep chewing with CHEN CHEW!

Oh, and can someone please check out Isted Grill for me before I get the chance? It seems to be the only other pork sandwich place in Copenhagen I can find a review of, but apparently, it is also the bomb.
